Let's get learning - Public Sector Roadshows

Written by Jessie ParkesAt Signia, we are dedicated to education and continued professional development (CPD) within the Public Sector.
To encourage this, we held two roadshows in Manchester and London. With around 52 people attending the roadshows this year and a jam-packed agenda, it couldn’t have been more exciting. Starting with Julia Van Huyssteen, Signia’s Head of Audiology, we explored the topic of Dementia and hearing loss. There has been a lot of media coverage on this, so Julia decided to go into detail on the topic, with an overview of the scientific facts and an open a discussion on how this relates to hearing aids (and if they can act as prevention for cognitive decline). Delegates responded to this very well, with healthy discussions around their points of view in relation to the research produced.
With Julia creating an open dialogue with the attendees, we then welcomed Angela Loucks Alexander (all the way from 'Down Under') to take us through APD and how to elevate Client-Centred Care for adults, based on her own experiences and research. Explaining a step-by-step process on how to identify potential red flags of APD and providing ideas on potential solutions for patients with hearing issues beyond the audiogram, proved to be a real hit with all!
Towards the end of the day, we were joined by Chris Cartwright from The Audiology Academy, who added to the discussion on Dementia and hearing loss. During his talk, Chris went into detail about how audiological care with a Dementia patient must change, highlighting the fact there are different auditory perceptual changes occurring, (depending on the type of Dementia) - and as a result, the whole 'traditional' patient journey should be reconsidered by clinicians.
These roadshows were a great success, designed to highlight and educate all attendees on important industry topics, which the whole team (as well as our guest speakers) were thrilled to share. We can't wait until the next one - details coming soon!
